Very hot today. Once you are out from under any shade, the sun is so strong. Still getting used to it.
After breakfast we headed down to Kyrenia to book a few things. It’s about a 15-20 minute drive. We always park in the big municipal carpark near the Town Hall and the Law Courts. From there it is a two minute walk down narrow cobbled streets to the beautiful harbour.
Kyrenia Harbour is one of the jewels of the island. Tiny, crowded with colourful fishing boats and wooden yachts, the water’s edge is ringed with tavernas and behind them, old stone carob warehouses now converted to restaurants.
Our first stop was the Lady Boss tuna fishing office. Bob and Dave have booked to go out tuna fishing next Friday. The skipper generally has great luck and they’ve been meaning to go for a few years. Hopefully the tuna will be running again by then. Because its been so hot, the upper water is still very warm and its made them late this year.
While they were booking their fishing trip, Penny and I walked around the bottom of Kyrenia Castle to where the amazing yacht Vela is moored up. We had a spectacular day out on her back in June and I wanted to do it again but we are less people than we were then and I wasn’t sure if he would do it. As it happens, he has a booking on Saturday 22nd of only 2 people so with our 5 added, it is his minimum. We booked to go. Looking forward to that.
Wandered back and had a nice cold drink under the umbrellas by the harbour. People watched and looked at the boats. Lovely place.
Did a shop run on our way home and stocked up for a bbq tomorrow night. Lay around the pool in the afternoon and read, interspersed with coolers under the garden shower. Will be so good to get back in the water on Monday morning.
Tonight we went out to dinner at the Domus Adres in Karaoglanoglu. We had a table right by the water and an absolute gorge fest of a meal. Penny and I had the full fish meze which centred around calamari. Bob and Daisy had the meat kebab meze which had just every meat you could think of in a mixed grill main dish and we shared countless small plate of delicious bites before those mains. David just had a starter of lambs liver and a main of calamari. Honestly, it was huge. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of it. And at the end you can help yourself to their dessert buffet which includes a massive freezer with 5 different types of ice cream. Then coffee…. It was all about £10 each plus wine which was also about £10 per bottle. Incredible value for so much lovely food in a wonderful setting by the sea. Highly recommend. They were very busy with lots of tables filled with family parties of Cypriots – a very good sign.
