Escape Beach Day

A wonderful hot, sunny day. Leon and Lucy had to work, so we left them to it, actually happily working from home…. well… there are worse places to be wfh…..

Daisy, Bob and I went down to Escape Beach for the day. Escape Beach is one of our closest beaches and it’s probably the most developed beach in northern Cyprus. To say this, I mean, it has a plethora of sun loungers, umbrellas, a luxury wooden pier, 2 cafes, showers, loos, beachwide wifi and waiter service to the beds. There are watersports available…. You can go down on the beach and sit on your towel or your own chair for free, but if you want to use their facilities its 35 tl for a bed and a lounger and access to the facilities. This is less than £3 for an excellent padded lounger, umbrella and waiter service. If you want the posh wooden pier, its £6. The beach is spotless, they clean it every day and the sea is as clear as glass. You can wade out a long way at all states of the tide and there is a little island just offshore which is wadeable to at low tide.

We got down there about 1015 and stayed till 330. Absolute heaven. Can’t count the number of sea swims…. many. We had a lovely lunch. Bob and I shared a massive burger with chips and salad…. Really delicious. 2 gulets came in at lunchtime and anchored in the outside of the bay outside the buoyed off swimming area. Nice to see them operating again.

We left the beach about 3ish. Our bill for food and drink was £20 which included 4 bottles of water, 6 coke zeroes and 2 burger and chips and service…. very reasonable.

Lucy didn’t finish work till 8. Then she swam a lot of lengths in the pool.

Leon went for a run through the hillside trails. I roasted a chicken and we had it beside the pool with delicious Cyprus boiled potatoes and some sauteed garlic spinach. Ice cream afterwards. Somehow we drank two bottles of Etel Red, the wine from the vineyard just up the hill. A massive moon tonight.
