Well, what an exciting day! This morning Stuart and John, booked a flight with Highline Tours, the paragliding operation based in Kyrenia Harbour. I have flown with them twice before and found them to be totally excellent. It’s a wonderful experience, peaceful and yet exciting.
We met in the landing field under a carob tree and then Stuart, John and I (sadly only the photographer this time) drove up the mountain with Ozgur, the main instructor. We picked up another instructor and a driver along the way. The route goes up through the mountain, past St Hilarion, and along the ridge to one of the two possible take off sites. The first one, and the most often used, had too little wind and so we pressed on to the most western launch site. Stuart got away first, soaring up above the deep valley and around the high peaks. Then the wind died a bit and there was a long wait before John could get away, but he did in the end.
By the time I got back down the hill, both the chaps had landed and were fairly ecstatic and totally enjoyed the flight. It IS amazing.
After that, we dealt with various admin matters and then back to lunch at the house, followed by an afternoon around the pool.
Tonight, we ate out in the Turkish quarter of Kyrenia at Efendi. We love this restaurant and have eaten here a good few times. It’s very European food but served in the perfect Levantine courtyard garden. We had several bottles of delicious red wine. A great evening.
