Beach Day and Music Night

Another scorcher today! 34C and cloudless skies. Hardly any breeze. We decided to have a beach day for a change, so we packed up our stuff and went down to Escape Beach. It’s probably about a 10 minute drive back towards Kyrenia.

You don’t have to pay to use the beach but you do if you want to use the facilities ie loungers, umbrellas, loos, showers, wifi etc. It’s 300 tl each which is £6.50. We got 2 loungers and a massive umbrella about 4 inches from the water’s edge and we had two little tables and a bin too – a good camp. They gave us 2 free cans of drink too – Bob likes Sprite so we went with 2 of them. I had my water along with me. They keep the beach absolutely immaculate, not a single bit of litter and the water is equally clean and clear as glass. You can see the little fish swimming in schools. This time of year the water is particularly warm and today it was glassy calm. When we got there at about 10am we were pretty much the only people on the beach. By 230 when we left, it was more crowded but not unpleasantly so.

We were in and out the water all the time. They had some noodles to borrow so it was nice to just float on them and enjoy the water. We saw the dive boat go out twice from the dive school on the beach. Hoping to do a dive with Stuart when he arrives.

We ordered a cheese burger for lunch which came with some chips and I had some of that. Very nice. About £6.50.

Came back and jumped in the pool for a bit of a wallow in fresh water. Watered some of the plants again in the areas where the dogs have damaged the irrigation pipes. Showered and got changed.

Tonight we went to a dinner with music at the Black Olive Bar. There must have been maybe 150 people there and we had a table with Pamela, Deborah, Jacqui, David, Lesley, Joe, Ann and Roger. Also saw Heather and Chris there. It was a buffet style of meal – Thai green chicken, sweet and sour chicken and beef chilli, rice and amazing chips. There were two male vocalists on. The first one did about 90 minutes of Rat Pack Songs. The second one did songs of the 60s and 70s. He had a massive voice. We peeled off at about 1030 – so tired all of a sudden, must be the sea air. It was a good do for about £18 each. Lots of people dancing.

The highlight of the evening for me was a wonderful moment from Bob. The second singer, who had a thick Liverpudlian accent, announced he was going to sing My Lady Soul, a Temptations hit. He went at it at top volume, really loud. After a while, Bob leaned across the table to me and said, “That’s a funny song title”. I said, “what do you mean?” and he replied “Well… you know…. My Lady’s Hole???? What”s that about?”….. well, the whole table collapsed…. what made it funnier was that he was being completely genuine and once you heard what he thought it was, of course you heard the singer singing that……. we laughed till we cried……

A very good night in very good company.
