Stuart and Fi arrived late on Wednesday night and Bob picked them up at Ercan. We sat out on the terrace chatting till after midnight. Lovely to have them here. On Thursday we just had a very relaxed day sunbathing around the pool and wallowing on the floats. They had some exciting house news too.
In the evening we went to an Oktoberfest evening organised by the TFR – The Foreign Residents society, a group made up of many nationalities residing here in Northern Cyprus. The chairman, Horst, is German and there is quite a large contingent of Germans and Scandinavians in the group. Oktoberfest is an annual event they hold but we’ve never been to it before. Either we were coming later or else something got in the way. So this was a first.

It was held at the Deniz Kizi hotel, in their beach bar area just above the beach. Absolutely lovely setting. I hadn’t seen the beach for a long time and never set up for summer with all the beds and umbrellas. It looked lovely and we must give it a try one day. Really nice sand and water and vey sheltered.

The event was very well attended – lots of people there and they’d decorated the whole area in an OKtoberfest theme with long tables set out. I’d say there were about 150+ attendees. Some people were dressed in costume ie men in lederhosen and women in dirndl dresses and little hats, plaits. We were sitting in our group – Jacqui, Pamela, me, Bob, Stuart and Fi. We had a lovely time. All drinks were included plus a dinner buffet. The food was very good – bread, potato salad,, special saurkraut, German sausages made by the Ozankoy butcher, fantastic chicken breasts in sauce, roast potatoes, vegetables and then for dessert different cakes and fruit. Horst gave us a welcoming speech and at regular intervals a German toasting song was played and everyone had to stand up and wave their flagons in the air. After dinner there was a disco from James Smile and we all danced. Perhaps too vigorously….. I’ve got a sore leg this morning!

Anyway, it was a very enjoyable evening and we rounded it off again on our own terrace with midnight nippy sweetys.
