More Activities, Dinners, Cataract Replacement….

Yesterday we had a quiet morning around the house. I read in the sun – it’s about 26C – and Bob did a few jobs around the house for Pamela. In the afternoon, Pamela and I went to an art class held at Silver Springs restaurant. It was £8 for a 2 hour class and included all the materials. There were 6 of us plus the teacher who was just lovely. She’s a primary school teacher back in the UK which is probably the right level for me!!!! We did 2 small paintings. An owl/bird of prey using white watercolour pencil mainly on black paper and a second one of a Hallowe’en owl on a spooky tree against the moon – again on black paper. I was pretty pleased with the first one. I haven’t painted anything in about 3 years and I thoroughly enjoyed it and will go again next week.

Came home and cooked a dinner – Marry Me Chicken. It was absolutely delicious, a new recipe for me, and one I shall certainly do again. Gorgeous. Google it to find the recipe. It’s quick and easy. Afterwards we watched tv.

This morning Pamela went off to Zumba and Bob and I went into Kyrenia to the Kamiloglu Hospital for a consultation with Dr Hussain, the ophthalmic surgeon. Bob has had lens replacement for cataracts in his right eye and needs the left one doing. His left eye is his good eye so he wanted some expert advice on what sort of lens to get. In the UK you can only get fixed distance mono lenses on the NHS ie distance prescription or reading prescription. This means that of course you get a distance one and then still need reading glasses. He wanted to find out if he was suitable for multifocus lenses which might do away with glasses all together. Anyway, he had a battery of eye tests, some needing drops, and eventually the doctor said that he was suitable for 3 types – the fixed ones like the UK, an Enhanced fixed one that would give him a deeper depth of visual field ie like a distance and a mid distance prescription, or a new type of multifocal. The enhanced fixed one was £800 all in and the new multifocal was £1600 all in. Bob asked for his advice and he said that of course the £1600 was best and if Bob was having both eyes done and if both eyes were normal (which they aren’t) then it would be worth it.. However with only 1 good eye he said that the performance would be about 90% of perfect. The enhanced fixed lens would give him 85% of perfect and therefore he would advise that because the extra benefit of the multifocal wasn’t worth double the price. An honest appraisal we thought and well worth considering. Our appointment today including an eye drop prescription was £40.

On the way back to Pamela’s we called up to Villa Rockheart to sort out a wifi issue. The road men down on the new road had cut the fibre optic cable again last night and somehow or other in the aftermath the router had come back but wasn’t seeing the rest of the mesh. It was lovely to meet our guests who seemed to be having a lovely time . They’d all been in the pool as well as the sea. The wifi was easily sorted out.

Got back to Pamela’s for 2 and Bob spent the rest of the afternoon playing canasta with Pamela, Lesley and Joe. Joe is a recent convert to the game and they seemed to be having a lovely time. I read and enjoyed a relax.

This evening Linda and Mike came round for dinner. Bob made his famous chicken and leek pie. We accompanied it with creamy mash and sweet corn. Pamela made an unctuous date cake served with ice cream for pud. Had a lovely convivial evening: good food, much chat, lots of giggles. We avoided the UK budget altogether for another day…..
