Last Caribbean Sea Days

We have spent the last 2 days steaming north from Curacao, to the east of Jamaica, through the narrowish gap between Cuba and Haiti, and now the last lap up to Fort Lauderdale. The weather has been boiling hot and sunny. We’ve spent the days up on the upper sun deck – deck 17. We’ve found a small area just outside the indoor pool and forward facing lounge which is just ideal. We can lounge there in total peace and enjoy the sun,yet just through the door is the indoor pool which is cool and lovely. We can even see the big movie screen from our beds….. in most other Princess ships this area is a paid for, exclusive area called The Sanctuary, but on Majestic it’s free. The indoor pool and lounge is gorgeous, so plush and comfortable with cabanas and big lounging beds but we like to be outside, so we just go in there for a cooler.

Bit of a funny thing yesterday. Princess invited all the Brits aboard to a cocktail and canapes party. Very nice of them, and very generous food and drink on offer – better than the Loyalty cocktail party a few days ago…. well, slightly less people I suppose. The hotel manager told me there were about 300 Brits aboard and all were invited but perhaps only 50 came. Possibly this was because it began at 945am….. ROFL Do you think they think the Brits start boozing early ???? Now…. as you can imagine, us Yorkshire folk (even adopted Yorkshire folk like me) are not going to turn down free food and drink, but even we baulked a little at the thought of downing cocktails that early. However, needs must and it would have been rude not to, so several glasses of prosecco were accepted although sadly we had to pass on the canapes although they did look exceptional.

Anyway, it’s been a very lovely chilled couple of days. We’ve had some video calls with the girls. We’ve read. We’ve watched movies in the open air. We’ve eaten too much…. 🙂 Last night was the last gala dinner of the cruise – black tie – and it did not disappoint. Fillet steak with lobster tail, Gorgeous smoked salmon starter.

Fabulous theatre show afterwards. The shows on Princess have been outstanding. The company are very very good and the technology on the stage is just out of this world for a ship. Incredibly good.

Today, the pastry chefs excelled themselves at lunch and made an array of fabulous gateaux. I had to have a slice. They have been excellent on this ship. Often on cruises the buffet table dessert offerings look great but are greatly disappointing to eat, tasting of nothing and being a bit claggy. I avoid them. Sadly for my diet, those on Princess have been light as a feather yet full of delicious flavour. Damn….

Tonight we had to pack our cases and put them out in the corridor to be collected before dinner. We’d booked one indulgence this cruise and opted to eat in the steak grill speciality restaurant tonight. Wowzer. An enormous meal. I started with a giant crab cake. Well, I say started….. they brought us a bread basket before that which contained such delicacies as warm garlic mozzarella tear and share bread….. then I had a blue cheese wedge salad with bacon bits. My main was a rib eye steak, which I had with creamed spinach and parmesan and truffle french fries. Finally a chocolate dessert which defied description…. Just a lovely dinner with a bottle of cab sauv. and 2 rounds of double espresso at the end….

Bob started with giant shrimp salad, then the blue cheese wedge salad, a New York strip steak with asparagus, mushrooms and red skin mash, then ended with apple and rhubarb pie with ice cream….

Have really enjoyed our 4 weeks of cruising but now very ready to reach land tomorrow and start our Florida adventures.
