It hammered down overnight and we awoke to truly apocalyptic rainfall. Oh dear….. First we were fortified by Madame’s breakfast. Fresh figs were sadly missing but there was fresh fruit. A yoghurt and fruit compote dessert. A basket of the most amazing bread and pastries, some of which I had never seen before ie French bread (not brioche) studded with chocolate. And of course homemade preserves, fruit juices and coffee. Have really enjoyed this b&b and would definitely stay there again. Pity we couldn’t use the pool.

We set off in torrential rain at about 915. It really was hammering down. Today we were taking the back roads all the way and the gps reckoned it would take us about 5.5 hours, which it did. We stopped somewhere along the way for a picnic lunch. Thank heavens the weather cleared up very quickly and we had a lovely drive, mainly through dense forests and across huge plains of cornfields and sunflowers. Like yesterday, a lot of small towns and villages, seemingly empty.

We got to the Marriott, to the west of Paris, and adjacent to Disneyland, at about 330. Check in was painless and we were delighted to find we had been allocated a little house in the area we like best, named Giverny. We have a 2 bed, 2 bath townhouse with its own garden adjacent to the main pool complex. The village seems very quiet at the moment which is great.

We unpacked and got straight. John and Susan arrived about 5pm. We had a cup of tea and then Bob and John went off to the supermarket for a first shop. Really like this resort.

Tonight John cooked.

We had a really nice pasta bolognaise dinner and then lashes of CHEESE afterwards 🙂 All washed down with a nice red wine. Tomorrow we start exploring around here, beginning with the Saturday market at Meaux.
