Fish and Chips!

33943140_10155245866176036_7898664854158835712_nRather a stormy day!  Around 11am the sky went very black and a sudden wind came up.  People really find it difficult to believe how suddenly a very strong wind can occur here, hence our longterm issue with broken umbrellas and dining furniture in the swimming pool!!!!  We quickly battened down the hatches, laid the umbrellas on the floor and put one across all the pool toys to keep them in place.  I made sure the new pergola curtains were secure.… it would have been very bad to find them shredded across the mountain…..   Anyway, 20 minutes later, it passed over.  We got no rain or anything.

Bob finished off the garden lights – MASSIVE HOORAY – what a problematic task that turned out to be.  It should have been relatively simple to install the lamp post and the gate light but he hit problem after problem.  Poor man had to keep re-doing sections of the work in all the heat… anyway, it’s all finished and working now.

After that we headed to the other side of Kyrenia to Mermaid Fabrics to pick up our bedroom blinds and the kitchen curtains, all now finished.  To say we are pleased with what they’ve made would be an understatement.  The blinds are fantastic and will really liven up the last two bedrooms to be refreshed.  Pictures tomorrow.

In the evening we were invited to a fish and chip supper at Pamela and Eddie’s house in Lapta.  They also invited their friends Hilary and Martin.  We stopped and picked the fish and chips up from Lokman’s  in Alsancak.   We’ve been going there for our fish and chip fix for years.  There used to be several fish and chip shops around, but they have dwindled recently.  Anyway, you can get a fantastic fish and chip meal for 40 ytl (about £6.50).  This includes a jumbo cod fillet in batter, massive portion of chips, mushy peas.

Armed with the cod and chips packed in boxes we drove up to Pamela and Eddie’s totally fabulous house in the hills above Lapta.  We ate them on their terrace overlooking the lights of the coastal strip below, washed down with liberal g&ts.  Thank you Eddie and Pamela.  I feel sure I must have put a severe drain on your Bombay Sapphire.  A lovely evening and it was very nice to meet Martin and Hilary.

We got home just before 1am.  The full moon had risen during the evening and was flying massively over our house.  A lovely sight.  It is so dark on our part of the mountain that star gazing is very spectacular on a clear night.  Last night was perfect.  If we hadn’t been so tired, it would have been fabulous to have just stripped off and jumped into the pool.  The moon was so bright we wouldn’t have needed to turn the pool lights on.
