Last Day in Daytona Beach and on to Orlando!

We spent our last day in Daytona Beach sunbathing and relaxing around the pool, just above the famous beach. It was a brilliant sunny day, temperatures around 25/26C – HOT. The sea was a lot calmer now the wind had dropped and I enjoyed a dip in it.

We went up to the apartment about 430 and packed, then went out for dinner to a fusion oriental restaurant. Had a good dinner.

We’ve enjoyed Daytona very much, particularly staying at Marine Terrace. The apartment was amazing and you can’t beat the location. We have seen dolphins swimming just outside on several days and we saw two launches from the balcony of our apartment.

This morning we had to check out by 9 and that was pretty smooth. We are leaving at just the right time! Today one of the largest motorbike gatherings in the USA starts and last 10 days. More than 100,000 bikers will descend on the town. It might be a bit…. errr. noisy…….

We stopped for breakfast at First Watch, a specialist breakfast/brunch restaurant (chain) specialising in a variety of healthy choice breakfasts, as well as more traditional choices. Everything is very, very fresh. I had an omelette filled with vegetables and served with green leaves. It was really good and I would definitely go back there again.

Our last week is spent back in Orlando at another Marriott Vacation Club property – Sabal Palms. It is one of three smaller resorts surrounding the humungous Marriott World Centre resort hotel. We have a 2 bed, 2 bath villa overlooking the golf course (Hawks Landing) and a short walk to the pool. As usual, it is more than spacious and has a full kitchen and a washing machine and tumble drier.

Our villa was not due to be ready till 4pm and we arrived before 12 so we planned to relax around our resort pool, and so we did. It was very peaceful – quite a retired crowd staying here by what we have observed. Grande Vista was more of a family atmosphere. We got chatting in the pool to a Canadian farmer and his wife. Interesting to hear that they too are having huge problems filling jobs, especially farming jobs.

Love our villa, it looks to be newly renovated. We’ll definitely have a good last week here. The weather is set very hot for this week. A good ending. We have some good plans, so read along. Tonight we headed out to Walmart and got some supplies for the week. Lemon and herb rotisserie chicken with cauliflower mash. Then our favourite zero everything diet ice cream.
