We were up with the lark when the alarm went off at 7am. Our ferry was at 1245 from Nanaimo, Duke Point but we had to allow for the roadworks at Kennedy Hill that could delay us an hour.
It was quite foggy – a sea mist – but it was rapidly clearing. We got to the roadworks about 845 and got through about 915 so not too bad. It was an easy drive after that with the sky soon back to blue.
The ferry was on time and we got really comfortable seats for the 2 hour crossing to Tsawwassen. A beautiful crossing. The sea was like glass. We saw 2 pods of humpbacks close to departure. Sad to see Vancouver Island disappearing…. Wonderful place….
It was about 30 minutes from the ferry terminal to the U S border. We approached the checkpoints with hardly any queuing. Any purchases in Canada?!! Just a few groceries. Ah….. We’ll have to have a look. But as you’ve told us there won’t be any penalty…. OK. I think it was about 2 tomatoes we had. We didn’t have any other fresh produce at this point. Anyway, we had to park up and go into the customs centre. After about 5 minutes a man came and told us all was well and we could proceed. No idea if they’d looked at our car or what had happened.
Got to our stop in Bellingham by 330. 4 Points by Sheraton on points. An OK corporate hotel. Had an early dinner at their BTown Raw Bar. Oysters, crab cakes and truffle cheese fries for me. Oysters, clam chowder, fish and chips for Bob. White wine. A nice treat after a lot of self catering..

Laundry night tonight…. And beginning to organise the packing ready for Thursday night. The, weather forecast remains fab.
