Today was my birthday and I woke up to brilliant sunshine and a clear sky all the way to Turkey. How lovely to be here on a day like this.

After breakfast, we set about returning the master bedroom to use by hanging the curtains and blind from Mermaid Fabrics that we picked up earlier in the week, plus the re-upholstered headboard and the new cushions. We are so delighted with everything. The quality of the fabrics is simply superb as is the workmanship. The curtains are beautifully lined. We are so pleased with the new look for the room and hope our guests will also find it a restful and relaxing space.

I picked three grapefruits today and we have a huge crop of lemons and so this weekend I will start to make some marmalade with those. It’s citrus glut time here so will set up a store of jam, marmalade and maybe some preserves over the next week.
Lovely to get so many good wishes from friends and family all over the world. Really nice. It is slightly humbling to reach this age and realise I have now lived longer than my dear dad. I lost him far too young and he is much in my thoughts today. I wish he’d lived to visit here. He would have loved it.

One of the last photos of dad at 68.
Tonight we drove less than 5 minutees up the hill to the Etel Vineyard Hotel for dinner in their fine dining restaurant. joining us for dinner were Alan and Lesley, Linda and Mike and Pamela and Eddie. We ate out on the terrace where they had heated the area with patio heaters. We had several bottles of the vineyard Gilham’s red, and some good food. Although we thought the food was not as good as when we ate there in October for John’s birthday. It was all good though and we had a super enjoyable evening with such great company. Really enjoyed it.

A very nice birthday. Next year will be a big one…. yikes…. whoever imagined we would be this old….
