Comings… Goings…. Patnem

It’s been a pretty lazy few days, Patnem style…. just enjoying the beach and the restaurants in the village. The sea has been perfect and we are in and out of it all the time.

Bob and Stuart played golf yesterday at the Lalit Hotel in the bay south of Patnem. It’s a nice little 9 hole course with lovely landscaping and as usual they were the only players there. It was £28 for the round, club rental and a buggy. Bob really enjoyed himself although he said his play was lamentable. Clearly more practice required. I have just been devouring books, reading my Kindle.

We have had some good meals on the beach. Namaste the other night. I had a kingfish steak with vegetables. Lovely. Bob had a fantastic biriyani. On the way back we caught the end of a musical celebration in the little temple off the beach road. They are always most welcoming to visitors and insisted we came in and shared plates of fruit and cake. There had been a musical procession, orange flags waving, and many people dressed in gold and saffron. A Jai Shri Ram celebration. Exciting to watch.

Yesterday, late afternoon, Pamela and Eddie arrived by train from Mumbai where they had spent several days. A tiring trip. We ate on the beach again – Roundcube this time. They had dug a massive firepit and it was great to sit around it. More celebratory fireworks and a big show from the Lalit. Some fire acrobats arrived and gave a performance around the firepit.

Today John J sadly departed our group to continue his winter travels towards Thailand. It has been really nice to make his acquaintance.

Tonight, 8 of us ate at Dropadi in Palolem. Very nice meal but not the best we.ve had there. Just a bit off form tonight.
