Last Visit to Turtle Beach

Bob, Daisy and I spent today at Turtle (Galgibag) Beach. Pamela, Eddie, Mike and Linda went to Art Resort at Palolem. Shall hear their report tomorrow.

After breakfast at Eve’s, Boler family of 3, tuk’d to Santosh’s at Turtle Beach. We wandered up, reserved a table for 145 and a bottle of sauvignon blanc, and then headed down to the rocks at the south end.

The beach was pretty empty and I’ve never seen a lower tide there. More rocks were uncovered around the river estuary than ever before. We set up our camp and Bob and I went for a first swim in the sea. There were waves but none of a particularly jumpable height and the temperature was like a bathtub.

We spent the next 3 hours moving between our camp on the sands, the sea and the lagoon. The lagoon was nice. Very warm but with an incredibly strong incoming tide running. We had body boards with us and if we took our feet off the bottom and just floated with them, we were moving up the estuary at a rate of knots…. we reckon abut 4 knots. None of us could swim against it. It wasn’t just the incoming spring tide, the wind was off the sea too. Anyway, a lot of fun.

At about 115 we packed up our rock camp and made our way to a more central point opposite Santosh’s. Bob went up to the shack and Daisy and I stayed there for about 30 minutes of bodyboarding. The wind had strengthened a bit and there was good surf. I stopped after a while because my knees were scraping on the shelly sand as the surf rides reached the end. Daisy being as light as a cork didn’t have the same issue.

Salty and soaking we went up to Santosh’s, showered off and enjoyed a sumptuous lunch. Firstly a lovely cold bottle of sauvignon blanc served in an ice bucket with no need to ask!!!! He knows us now…. then plates of seafood to share: rawa fried oysters, butter garlic calimari, butter garlic king prawns, prawn shikwa, french fries. Everything totally yummy and so cheap. About £2.50 per sharing plate for the seafood. £12.50 for the wine.

We tuk’d back at 3.30 and properly showered. Bob and I promptly fell asleep till 615 and then went down and met Daisy at 715. We walked down to the beach and ate a light dinner at Casa Fiesta. A beautiful warm starlit night. We weren’t really very hungry so we shared a dish of palak paneer, some deadly nachos and a cheese garlic naan. It was happy hour all night for cocktails. Bob had a Cosmopolitan and a frozen margarita. Daisy had a Happy Accident and a Bikini Martini. I had 2 gins and a bottle of soda. Lovely evening with a great beach bonfire at the end.
