Our gang is about at its largest now with the arrival of Pamela’s four friends yesterday. They had been up in in the Golden Triangle – bit of a torrid tour by all accounts, so I think glad to get to Patnem.
We had a day on the beach yesterday and then Bob and I had dinner with John and Susan at the Sushi Cafe in Colomb. Hadn’t been there for about 10 years and found it 1000% improved and really very nice. The menu is a strange dialogue between Italian and Japanese cuisines which is a bit odd. But we went full on Japanese and it was all delicious and we will definitely go back. Bob and I shared a plate of Dragon Roll, also a roll starring king fish and scallions and we also had Japanese fish cakes which were exceptionally good. We liked the music and the atmosphere too. Will definitely go back.

Today we spent the day at Turtle Beach or Galgibag Beach to give it its correct name. It’s about 10 minutes by tuk and is just the most spectacular couple of miles of pristine sand backed by pine trees with a few shacks amongst the trees. We go there very visit, it’s one of our favourite places. We go into Santosh’s restaurant, ask him to get a couple of bottles of Sula Sauvignon Blanc on ice and then wander down to the rocks at the south end of the beach. We set up camp there. As its name hints, its a turtle beach so there are no loungers, umbrellas or chairs allowed on the sand.
We like to alternate between wallowing in the “lagoon” at the end of the beach and the open sea. It was really really calm today so we got lots of swims in both places. Just gorgeous. Heather , Chris and Pat came too. They’d never been before and Pat in particular was wowed. It is a spectacular beach. I have lots of pictures of it elsewhere in the blog if you search Turtle Beach.

Went back to Santosh’s about 115 and had a long lunch of various seafood dishes: calamari fried in a semolina crumb, king prawns in lemon garlic butter sauce, oysters fried in a bulgar wheat and herb risotto. Chips. Oh and said white wine with some ice cold beers too. Yum. Santosh’s is very rustic but the food is really good and it was packed as usual.

Got back to the flat about 3:30 and then had a quick dip in the pool and a rest before we met Pamela, John, Susan, Joseph and Janet for dinner at Casa Fiesta. We weren’t very hungry but i had a dragon roll and Bob had a spring roll and we had some drinks. Massive full moon and it was very hot tonight. Lovely day.
It was our friend Deborah’s birthday and she and her husband David are cruising somewhere east, so we got the waiter to film us wishing her a happy birthday.
