Fuengirola Market

Today we drove about 50 minutes north to the seaside town of Fuengirola to go to their massive Tuesday market. It’s the biggest market in the whole region and we’ve been multiple times over the years. In the early years before we had GPS, we often got lost in town and circled it madly trying to park. This time Google Maps took us straight to the car park.

It was another beautiful day. Sunny about 23C and by late morning, we could feel it hot on our backs as we travelled up and down the lanes of the market. There were stalls of all kind: wicker baskets, linen and cotton clothes of nice quality, underwear, t shirts, fake t shirts, shoes, sheets, towels, hats, watches, pottery and ceramics, kitchen ware, spices, children’s toys and clothes. There used to be a section of fresh foods and indeed that may still be there, but we didn’t find it this time. The market is truly huge and is held on the Fairground. Around it are quite a good selection of food outlets and bars of all types. We came out about midday and had lunch in one. I had a couple of tapas plates and Lucy and Bob and schnitzel rolls with salad.

We had a good haul. Bob got a gorgeous pure cotton long shirt, blue and white stripe. Lucy got a linen dress and two tops, one linen, one cotton. I got a lovely linen top and a linen/cotton dress. They were well priced and very good quality. Yes, there were cheap bargain type stalls but also really nice ones too.

If you want to go to a market in this area, choose this one. Every Tuesday from 9am. I’ve been to nearly all of the others and there is just no comparison.

We came back in the afternoon and Bob rested and Lucy and I put Baby B-T into the stroller and went off to explore all round the resort. there are 3 pools plus one indoor pool plus extra spa and baby pools. There is mini golf, padel courts, petanque and giant chess, table tennis. There are two children’s playgrounds, a kids club and a baby club. All beautifully maintained as are the beautiful grounds. I can only commend the gardeners and the designers. They have done a terrific job. I got so caught up I failed to take a single photo but tomorrow we are spending the day here so I will make up for it.

At the end of our walk we sat in the bar/restaurant near to the main pool and I had a chilled glass of rose and Lu had a cocktail. It was very nice to sit there and watch the world go by. The outdoor pools may or may not be heated. If so, not to a great extent. The indoor one is positively balmy so we plan to spend the day outside but go in there to swim.

Came back to the apartment and Bob got dinner on. Monstrous great thick ribeye steaks with baked potatoes and salad. They were really good but beat us in the eating….. Baby had a bottle and watched with great interest. She is so ready to start trying food.

After dinner we did our usual wind down baby routine. Lucy took Baby into the big bath for a relaxing float and relax session. Then a nice snuggly towel and a wind down to bed.
