A Day at Marriott Playa Andaluza

Today we decided to stay in the resort and just relax in the sun. It was a beautiful day – up to about 24/25C but with a clear cloudless sky and a hot sun that felt much hotter than it was.

After our first gentle wake up play with Baby B-T whilst Lulu had a sleep-in, I went down to the pool and established base camp around the little toddlers pool adjacent to the main pool. I managed to get a number of loungers and 2 umbrellas and we spent a lot of the day there.

The small pool and the large pool were pretty cold to be honest. I could probably have gone in the large one as the day went on and the heat rose but neither was suitable for Baby. So we went into the indoor pool which was heated to about 30C. Wearing her swim nappy she really enjoyed a lovely float and swim with all of us and it was such a joy to see her there swimming away so happily in the water. Lucy has been taking her to Swim Baby classes and her water confidence is very evident. I highly recommend these classes and it is astonishing how very young babies ie 1 month take to the water.

After a lovely swim we went into one of the spa pools – didn’t turn the bubbles on – and kept her head above water at all times. She loved that. It was like the bath of course. There were 6 spa pools in the main indoor area, all of different temperatures. We enjoyed them.

Then we came out and dried off in our little “camp”. There are plenty of other guests here but it is by no means crowded and there are plenty of loungers for everyone.

Came back to the apartment about midday and had a lovely lunch = cold meats, salad, cheese, egg salad, boquarenos,… I love having a grazing lunch when we are staying in the Med. All their produce is so delicious.

After lunch we went back to the pool and Lucy and I took Baby to the beach for a look-see. As I mentioned before the beach has clearly not been readied for the summer yet ie cleaned and cleared of seaweed. Even so, I dont think it’s the nicest beach in Estepona to be honest. However, Baby had her first paddle in the sea and seemed to enjoy it rushing over her toes, although it was not exactly warm!!!!!

Lu put Baby down for a nap in the apartment about 3pm. I went back later and spelled her while she went for a massage in the resort spa. She said it was absolutely lovely and she certainly smelled gorgeous on return from all the essential oils. We all met up at the pool again because Baby had woken up so I’d brought her down.

By then it was 5pm and still really hot. Happy Hour started and also bingo was on at 530 in the pool bar. Well…. who could resist!!!! We packed up our camp and went up to the pool bar area and I had a very large rose wine with ice and Bob and Lucy had pina coladas. We had a real laugh playing bingo. We had no chance, just the worst cards imaginable but the chap running it was really good and it was entertaining. The couple next to us got chatting and it turned out they were from the western burbs of Chicago not so far from where we lived and where Lucy was born. Small world. Tomorrow is a quiz night so we might have to go to that. Whilst waiting for the bingo they played some golden oldies and Baby had a great time dancing with grandad.

Dinner in the apartment – Iberico Pork steaks with crushed garlic potatoes and peas a la Francais — thank you so much Lu. Afterwards we watched true crime on tv and relaxed…. Such a lovely day. It is great to stay here in the apartment as a family, so much more comfortable and convenient than a standard hotel. We have laundry facilities so we can wash which is a major boon with a baby.
