Thoroughly enjoyed another two days at the Surfer’s Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa. I have to say that apart from our evening with Jane and Lee, we never left the place!!!! It was just too wonderful. The lagoon saltwater swimming pool lured us during the day, we loved our suite and last night we had dinner in their teppanyaki restaurant, Misono. We have eaten in various different Teppanyaki restaurants over the years but this one was definitely the best in terms of chef performance and entertainment value. Our guy was a star with the knives. He did all the usual tricks like catching the egg in his hat, making the grill flare, throwing bits of food that we caught. But he did a whole lot more. One of the tricks that was new on me was when he made a volcano shape out of onion rings and then poured stuff inside it, that when flamed, it first shot fire and then steam, just like a real volcano. It is a massively popular restaurant and was absolutely buzzing and rammed all evening.
Today, we had a late checkout so we spent the morning by the pool. Bob snorkelled with the puffer fish again. There are apparently between 3 and 400 fish in the lagoon pool. The weather has been brilliant for our entire stay. Not a cloud in the sky and about 28C. It’s not as burning as when we first arrived.
We checked out at about 1pm, sorry to leave. One of the best Marriotts we have ever stayed in and we’ve stayed in a lot!
Not far to travel today. About 90 minutes south to Byron Bay, in the very north of New South Wales. Of course it’s a different time zone so we also went forward an hour. Our apartment is really nice. On the third(top) floor of a small complex, right across the beach at Clark’s Beach. 5 minutes walk into town. Lovely breeze blowing right off the sea onto our balcony. Very well equipped with a full kitchen and laundry facilities. We’re going to have a lovely few days here. The forecast is good too.
We parked under the building, unpacked a bit and then drove back to Woolworths and got a few supplies. Had dinner on the balcony. Lamb steaks, peas and garlic, new potatoes for Bob. Washed down with some nice Wynn’s Coonawarra shiraz. Afterwards we had some ice cream and watched Shetland on the tv via Bob’s iPad.
