Settling In and Lunch at Driftwood

A nice couple of days. We have been settling in and enjoying the lovely autumn weather and getting in touch with people here on the island. Feel very relaxed now and have put the arrival shenanigans behind us. Have definitely decided to remain out of the south for the foreseeable future – no loss frankly – and this morning we cancelled our BA fllghts for a full refund voucher, and replaced them with Turkish Airlines ones home from Ercan. As a bonus we used our TA points so the flights home are really cheap. We’ll find a good use for the BA voucher no doubt. It’s good till September 2023.

Today we were invited to a lunch held by the Anglo Turkish Association at the restaurant Driftwood in Lapta. It’s an association that engages in educational, travel and social activities for charitable causes, supporting local schools and projects. The lunch was organised by our friend, Heather, who is a member. It was a really good lunch. The food at Driftwood is always good. We had a few little mezze plates to start, and then my starter was a dish of spiced chicken livers, Bob had Smoked salmon. For mains, I had a bacon wrapped chicken breast in a spinach cream sauce. It was really delicious. Bob had spicy pork steaks in a sort of sweet and sour sauce. I was too full for pudding but Bob had a massive slice of apple pie with custard. We were seated with somed interesting companions and it was all very convivisl. The scenery there is lovely overlooking the sea. My 2 course lunch was £7.60 and Bob’s 3 courses were £9. What an incredible bargain.

Got home about 4 and Habibi came up at 5 and we discussed garden projects for this visit. We are about to have our upper drive paviered and straightened in terms of the initial slope up from the road. It will be a big improvement. They will start on Sunday.

We havr quite a few fun activities coming up over the next week. Dinners out. A Halloween party and dinner. And next week we are helping friends with their olive harvest which will be a first.
